Travel eSIM guide
What is a travel eSIM?
A travel eSIM is a digital SIM profile with a prepaid data plan for the country or region you are visiting. Instead of buying a plastic SIM card abroad, you download the eSIM to your phone with a QR code and use local mobile networks at prepaid rates, without international roaming fees.
Local, regional or global eSIM?
A local eSIM covers one country and usually gives the most data for the price — for example an eSIM for the USA, Türkiye or Japan. A regional plan such as a Europe eSIM or Asia eSIM works across several countries, and a global eSIM suits round-the-world trips.
How much data do I need?
Maps, messaging and social apps use relatively little data, while video calls, streaming and hotspot use need much more. For a short city break a small plan is often enough; for longer stays or remote work, choose a larger or unlimited-data eSIM.
Install your eSIM before you fly
Install the eSIM at home while you have Wi-Fi, then switch it on when you arrive. Our eSIM installation guide walks you through iPhone and Android step by step.
Check that your phone supports eSIM
Your phone must be eSIM-compatible and carrier-unlocked. See the full list of eSIM-compatible phones before you buy.
